The Schoolcraft County Sheriffs Department
serves 230 civil process papers annually. If you have any

Pistol Registration:
Pistol registration will be conducted
during normal business hours at the Sheriffs Department.
Inmate Visitation /
Information:
Inmate visitation will be held Monday –
Thursday between the hours of 5:30pm and 8:30pm by appointment
only.
Immediate family members only will be
permitted to visit an inmate.
Visitors must have proper and valid
identification. (State drivers license or state identification
card.)
No more than three persons can visit an
inmate at one time.
No food or drink will be allowed in the
facility.
No cellular devices will be allowed in the
facility.
All persons who enter the Schoolcraft
County Jail for visitation purposes will be subject to search.
Inmate visitation may be refused, or
suspended if the orderly running of the facility is in jeopardy.
Schoolcraft County
Jail Information:
The Schoolcraft County Jail was constructed
in 1957 with an original inmate capacity of 14 beds. In 1995
additions and internal renovations expanded the capacity to 26
inmates. Currently the Schoolcraft County Jail operates 24 hours
a day and houses 26 inmates, both male and female, from
Schoolcraft and surrounding counties. The facilities average
daily population is 19 inmates. The facility currently maintains
its own food services and the kitchen staff prepares
approximately 20,798 meals annually.
The correctional staff at the Schoolcraft
County jail is responsible for the orderly running of day to day
operations of the facility. In addition the Sheriffs Department
is the County’s secondary 911 answering center. Deputies also
serve as the court ordered and mental health transportation
service, transporting inmates and mental health patients all
over the state of Michigan.
Sheriffs Road Patrol:
The Sheriffs Department road patrol
actively patrols approximately 15,434 annually. Sheriffs Road
Patrol conducts traffic enforcement as well as handles criminal

Special Operations
Marine/Snowmobile/ATV Patrol:
The Marine Patrol operates from May to
September. Patrol crafts work on the counties inland lakes and
rivers as well as the Great Lakes. Deputies perform law
enforcement functions as well as promote safe boating. Each year
the department teaches youth ages 12-15 in the state approved
Michigan Safe Boaters Class. The Sheriffs Marine Division is
also called on many search and rescue incidents throughout the
year and they maintain an operational ice rescue team for the
winter months.
The ATV Patrol operates from April to May
each year and works closely with ATV groups to make the counties
trails as safe as possible. Deputies perform law enforcement
functions and teach area youth about safe operations of an ATV.
The Snowmobile Patrol operates from
December to April and patrols trails across the county. Like all
Sheriffs Department programs it’s designed to promote safety.
The program teaches area youth in a snowmobile safety course
that’s offered annually. Deputies provide law enforcement
functions and work closely with the Department of Natural
Resources Conservation Division to make our winter recreation as
safe as possible.
